A Casual Gathering
Ann Patchett will share the stage with J.K. Rowling in New York City this fall

August 23, 2012 Entertainment Weekly said it best: “Does this sound like the best book club meeting ever?” In a recent post on its “Book Shelf” blog, the publication announced that J.K. Rowling will make a rare U.S. appearance to promote her new novel, The Casual Vacancy.
Can you guess who will be speaking alongside Rowling on the stage at New York City’s Lincoln Center?
EW confirms that Nashville’s own Ann Patchett will join Rowling onstage for a “conversation” between the two authors on October 16. Patchett’s most recent novel, State of Wonder, has just been released in paperback; The Casual Vacancy, Rowling’s first novel for adults, will be released on September 16 in the U.S., U.K., Canada, New Zealand, and Germany. The initial print run is a whopping two million copies. Clearly the publisher is not worried about Rowling’s transition from children’s author to mystery novelist: “She’s a writer,” Michael Pietsch of Little, Brown told USA Today. “She lives to write. Her way of engaging with the world is by writing.” Sounds like someone else we know.
